The Shippensburg University History Club
It is the mission of the Shippensburg University History Club to promote
interest and awareness of History within the Shippensburg University community
through volunteering, lecture, outings, debates, and other events.
The SUHC strives to provide a community of people who like history, as
well as a community for history majors within the department, although all
majors are welcome and encouraged to show up!
Some things we have done and plan to do:
Civil War history trips to Antietam, South Mountain, and Monocacy Battlefields, as well as Harper's Ferry
War of 1812 trip to Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD
Public debate-discussions on current issues
Archival work with the Appalachian Trail Museum
Local History Trip to different locations throughout the Cumberland Valley
Cumberland County Historical Society trip, with a talk on the Carlisle Indian School
Gettysburg Field Trip
The SUHC is a member organization in the Green League, a loose confederation of clubs that allows for collective action projects (thus the AT Museum work), and promotes an environmentally sensible lifestyle.
If you are interested, email President Mark Shifflet about meeting days and times.
