Foreign Film Club

The purpose of the Foreign Film Club is to provide a setting for students to view highly praised, influential, and/or rare cinema from an origin outside of the United States.

This is done through both screening of the films and meeting to discuss the films in an informal setting.

It is the belief of the Founder, Christopher L. Piper that:

  • Foreign films are capable of providing just as beneficial attributes as domestic film.
  • Through viewing foreign films, students increase their exposure to the richness and diversity of culture.
  • Also by viewing these films, students have an improved opportunity to correlate themes found in their academic courses.

An additional purpose of the Foreign Film Club is to help supplement the topics and themes taught in courses around Shippensburg University.

Through careful and considerate cooperation between the club and faculty:

  • Professors may be able to offer extra credit assignments to their students based on attendance (and/or discussion) of certain topic-related films.
  • Students may be exposed to new foreign concepts that they can use in future academic exploits.
