The Chess Club is an organization for anyone interested in playing, studying, or learning the timeless game of chess. The club meets every &, which is on the main floor of Dauphin Humanities Center, during the fall and spring semesters. If you like to play chess, or if you simply always wanted to learn, come on down!
Shippensburg University Chess Club has made a point of fielding a collegiate chess team to play in the annual Pennsylvania State Collegiate Chess Championship for three years running. In 2012, Shippensburg University won the collegiate championship, defeating every competing college in the state. In 2013, Shippensburg placed second behind Duquesne University. In 2014, Duquesne was able to defend their title and Shippensburg was narrowly edged out of its second-place spot by University of Pittsburgh. The team intends to train hard for the 2015 competition, and interested players are always needed!
In addition to the State Collegiate Championship, Shippensburg University makes a point of participating in other tournaments and challenges, as well as attending campus events and teaching chess to students at GBLUES.
