What is WSYC? Check us out at WSYC.ORG!

The purpose of WSYC-FM is to provide music, sports and information for Shippensburg University and South Central PA. Also, WSYC was created to provide student training in the fields of radio and audio production, to serve the public interest, and to be an instrument of expression for the university community in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Not only do we play breaking music before the commercial stations even know about it, we broadcast shows that feature local and independent artists, as well as new music from around the globe. You might think that makes us different, and you're right, but that's what college radio is all about! Check out our main website here: WSYC.ORG!

So you want to be on-air?
Then you've come to the right place! WSYC (We Serve Your Community) is Shippensburg University's student funded and run radio station - you are the staff. In addition to playing music that you wouldn't hear on other stations, you can be an announcer broadcasting (and streaming to the world over the Internet) various sporting events, public service interviews and documentaries, as well as newscasts. If you want to interview new artists in the music scene, talk to record promoters, work with music label professionals in NYC and around the world, it's all possible. Whatever area you want to explore, you can!

Do I have to be a DJ?
Being a DJ is a lot of fun, but there are many more opportunities for students at WSYC. You can be a music director, production engineer, sales manager, board operator, or concert reviewer, for example. You can also be a newscaster, conducting interviews and compiling and reading the days headlines on air. Or, you could even have your own talk show on sports, music, college life, etc. Radio is a big place! In the past, we've even had people read their poetry on air. Anything is possible with WSYC!

Where are you guys located?
The WSYC studios and offices are located on the 2nd floor of the Ceddia Union Building (CUB) in Room 246. We are next to The Slate, the student newspaper, and SUTV, the student TV station. You are welcome to stop by any time the station is open to learn more about it!

What does being a member entail?
All members are trained in proper announcing, board operating, equipment use, and FCC rules and regulations. In addition, you will be taught how to make on-air liners and promos for your show so you can promote it to listeners . If you decide to be involved in news, sports or sales, the respective student directors will train you in what you need to do. Members should attend all monthly general meetings, vote during staff elections and participate in station activities and events.
